In a world where ‘being connected’ is essential to almost everything, a slow Internet connection is more than just a nuisance.
Whether you are trying to work remotely, check your social media status, watch your favorite web series or movie, connect to kid’s online classes or just look up restaurant reviews or online shopping, a slow internet connection keeps you from living life on your terms. Highly stable and fast internet connection is required for everything which the operators are not able to provide with their congested 4G networks. Therefore, everyone is thinking about getting a good fiber broadband connection to work from home and stay connected uninterruptedly. But even broadband internet connections can fluctuate and have issues that perhaps you might not know how to solve.
Note that these are basic things which most of you might already know, but there may be some customers who have been recently introduced to a broadband service provider and are facing connectivity issues which they don’t know how to tackle or fix.
Reset or Restart Your Router
One of the most simple things that every customer care agent would initially ask you to do is restart or reset your router or the modem. It is advisable that once a day at least you restart keep it going smooth. If there are any network issues, resetting the router might solve most of the issues.
Check Router Settings
The settings configured in your router should always be as per the recommended settings like the correct DNS servers 8.8.8.8 and 1.1.1.1 or your ISP DNS Servers and the MTU should be set to 1480. Make sure that the router’s settings haven’t been interfered with. Just reconfigure the settings and if you don’t know how to do it, please take the help of someone who does or just check YouTube tutorials. You might have also contact your ISP customer care, who might set it up for you at a nominal charge.
Check the Speed by Doing Speedtest
Before you contact your ISP customer care team, please ensure that the issue is with the network speed and not the Wi-Fi connectivity or something else. The internet speed of your broadband connection should be checked only through a wired LAN connected computer only. You will never get the desired speeds over WiFi as WiFi depends on various factors and WiFi is for your ease of use, not for testing your plan speeds during debugging.
Router Location
The location of your router is also an important aspect which you should understand carefully. If your Wi-Fi router is placed at some place where the walls and other objects are interfering its network signals, then you won’t be able to get a seamless internet experience.
Issues with your Computer
Sometimes it is not even the fault of the Wi-Fi router or the broadband connection or your service provider, but your computer or the device in which you are using internet. If you are not receiving good internet on your computer, there may be an issue with your computer’s system. Also, you must be cautious of internet Worms and Malware as once they enter your computer, they will slow down both your system as well as your internet speed. Clean your computer or device once, close all background apps and then again check the internet speed.
If the issue still exists, call or mail the ISP customer care team to raise the complaint and book a visit.
